Barker wins IBF title

ATLANTIC CITY:British middleweight  Darren Barker won the IBF championship on Saturday with a split decision over defending champion Daniel Geale of Australia. Barker leaped in jubilation  when the source were read at Revel Casino-hotel then collapsed to the canvas while his handlers celebrated in the ring. He won the belt almost two years after an 11th-round TKO loss to WBC middleweight champ sergio Martinez at   Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall. Barker prevailed in a grueling fight that had fans at Revel's Ovation Hall on their feet throughout

Ryan and Moira Goepfert were elated when they were selected for student housing at Columbia University. The move would put them in a renovated doorman building across from campus, and it would save them $600 a month in rent. But after Mr. Goepfert visited the quiet hallways of the university building, the couple turned down the offer. “Almost 100 percent of the reason was our daughter, Grace, and the relationships she’s built on our floor,” said Mr. Goepfert, 34, who is pursuing a degree at Columbia’s School of General Studies. The Goepferts live in a one-bedroom rental on West 119th Street in  Harlem . Their floor has six children between the ages of 4 months and 7 years and the family next door has a baby on the way. Especially in the winter, the children hang out in the 12-by-15-foot landing outside the elevator. They ride their scooters down the hallway and kick around a ball. NASA Rover Finds Evidence That Mars Once Had Lakes

Mars' massive Mount Sharp may have formed billions of years ago as water carried sand and silt into the center of a large crater. ASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS Mars is cold and dry, but billions of years ago, it was cold and wet. That's according to new evidence from NASA's  Curiosity rover , which is currently exploring a large crater on Mars. The rover has found geological evidence that lakes of liquid water existed in the crater 3.5 billion years ago. "The lakes may have existed for hundreds of thousands of years," says  John Grotzinger , a researcher at Caltech and chief scientist for the rover. But he adds, the lake network may have stuck around for millions of years. This is the second big water announcement NASA has made about Mars recently.
