Mechi customs office loses huge revenue

iJHAPA: Mechi Customs office Kakadvitta has faced loss of Rs 18 crore within 11 days due to the ongoing strike and blockade at the border. Bhim Parsad Adhikari chief  has managed to  collect revenue on only Rs 10.5 million on a daily basis."Goods have not been supplied easily from India and that has directly affected revenue collection" he added. He said the economy of the country has been affected must just before Dashain, Tihar and Chatt festivals.Adhikari further informed that the office aims to collect more revenue before Dashian.

Ryan and Moira Goepfert were elated when they were selected for student housing at Columbia University. The move would put them in a renovated doorman building across from campus, and it would save them $600 a month in rent. But after Mr. Goepfert visited the quiet hallways of the university building, the couple turned down the offer. “Almost 100 percent of the reason was our daughter, Grace, and the relationships she’s built on our floor,” said Mr. Goepfert, 34, who is pursuing a degree at Columbia’s School of General Studies. The Goepferts live in a one-bedroom rental on West 119th Street in  Harlem . Their floor has six children between the ages of 4 months and 7 years and the family next door has a baby on the way. ISLAMABAD:  Days before Pakistan’s powerful army chief was due to visit Washington for talks on regional stability and fighting militancy, General Raheel Sharif engaged in thinly veiled criticism of the nuclear-armed country’s civilian government. A terse statement from the army’s PR wing underlined the tension between Pakistan’s military and its civilian government, just as the United States prepares to receive Sharif weeks after the prime minister held talks there. After top generals met to review a major crackdown on extremists, the Pakistani military said it would be “undermined” if the government did not take “matching governance initiatives”.
