Fraud suspects hunted in Australia mother-daughter murder case
Australian police say they are hunting for fraud suspects linked to the murder of a young mother and her daughter.
On Tuesday authorities revealed that Karlie Jade Pearce-Stevenson's bank account had been accessed hundreds of times after she was killed.
Police also said an impersonator called her family and convinced them to deposit more money into her account.
The details come as her family placed a tribute to her in a local newspaper.
"The sun doesn't shine as bright as it did but the night is now lit with a few more stars," Ms Pearce-Stevenson's father and brother wrote in the piece published in the classified section of the NT News.
"No more looking to see is that girl is you as we saw someone else in a crowd."
The pair were last seen in November 2008. Ms Pearce-Stevenson was 20 at the time, while her daughter Khandalyce was aged two.
Ms Pearce-Stevenson's mother withdrew a missing person's report in 2009 after she received fake text messages and at least one phone call, which reassured her that her daughter was still alive.
Detectives say they both suffered "violent and deliberate" deaths.
